Square collection of beautiful photos

my first submission to the Neosynthesis Chronicle C23 : Forces of Nature
this is the corpse of a raccoon who died in a hollow willow tree in the greenbelt last spring. i believe he was a baby of my momma coon, a tough old girl who raises her litters every year in a tree that overhangs the trail back there. it is always such a blessing to watch her babies grow up every year, they are like a part of my own family. i don't intend this photo to be grotesque or anything but i figured i should put it in this category anyway incase it offends some people. i want it to be more a tribute to the short life this precious little baby had and the reality that is nature. |

You are either pitiful or powerful... you can't be both.

THe only reason i dont fall in total love with the shot is it's rather too abstract..i dont see death ..i only see a dismembered coon paw.
It would kick in higher for me if more of the little bugger were more comprehensible within the shot..

666- This is NOT the number of the Beast. It is how many Beasts it takes to screw in a lightbulb
the little guy was pretty decomposed and covered in a lot of debris, as well as being stuck in a hollow tree trunk, so there wasn't much of him showing.

This is such a powerful photo.
It truly shows just how frail life is. The fact that it's a deteriorated baby-paw makes it all the more poignant and heart-wrenching.
Life really is but a mist of vapor.
I applaud this photo with accolades of high degree.
